This beautiful vintage handcrafted wooden box features traditional Colombian straw marquetry (Tamo de Pasto), a decorative folk art technique from the Pasto region of Nariño, Colombia.
Thin strips of natural straw are carefully cut and inlaid into the black lacquered wood to create the charming duck and marsh grass motif that wraps around the box and lid. The lid also features a small scenic design and decorative knob, while the interior reveals the natural wood grain.
The shimmering golden tones of the straw create a subtle iridescent effect as the light hits the surface — a characteristic feature of traditional Tamo de Pasto straw inlay work.
The bottom retains its original artisan workshop stamp indicating production in Pasto, Nariño, a region well known for handcrafted decorative arts.
This piece works beautifully as a jewelry box, keepsake holder, or decorative storage box, and would make a lovely accent on a dresser, shelf, or coffee table.
