Bringing Vintage Charm Into Your Home

Bringing Vintage Charm Into Your Home

I just read an article on Homes & Gardens about decorating with vintage (check it out here), and it really spoke to me. Since I work with vintage furniture and decor every day, I thought it’d be fun to share my take on it—plus some easy ways you can mix vintage into your home!

I love vintage because it’s not just stuff—it’s stories. Every old piece has a past, and when you bring it into your space, you’re giving it a new chapter. Mixing vintage with modern makes a home feel warm, interesting, and totally unique. Here’s how you can do it:

7 Easy Ways to Add Vintage Style

1️⃣ Go for Solid, Well-Made Furniture
The article talks about choosing quality vintage furniture, and I couldn’t agree more. Old wooden tables, dressers, and cabinets are made way better than most new stuff. Plus, they add character you just can’t fake!

2️⃣ Use Vintage Fabrics & Rugs
A cool old rug or some vintage-style cushions can totally change the vibe of a room. They add warmth, colour, and make everything feel more “lived-in” (in the best way).

3️⃣ Find Unique Vintage Lighting
Old chandeliers, sconces, or even funky retro lamps can make a huge difference. Light changes everything, and vintage fixtures add so much personality. I always say, if you find a great vintage light—grab it!

4️⃣ Mix in Small Vintage Finds
You don’t have to go big—just adding a few trinkets like old picture frames, mirrors, or pottery makes a space feel more personal. The article talks about collecting meaningful pieces, and I love that idea. Decor should tell a story, not just fill a space!

5️⃣ Hang Vintage Art or Mirrors
Art from different eras makes a home feel curated, not just decorated. You can go for classic paintings, funky retro prints, or even old posters—whatever speaks to you.

6️⃣ Use Vintage Kitchen Stuff
If you’ve ever had coffee in an old-school mug or served snacks on a vintage tray, you get it. There’s something special about using pieces that have been around for a while. Plus, they look awesome on open shelves!

7️⃣ Give Old Pieces a New Life
This one’s my favorite! Upcycling is such a great way to make vintage work for your home. Whether it’s painting an old dresser, turning a ladder into a bookshelf, or refinishing a cool table (which is kinda my thing 😉), there’s always a way to refresh something instead of tossing it.

Why Vintage?

What I love most about vintage is that it makes a home feel real. It’s not about trends—it’s about surrounding yourself with pieces that mean something, whether they remind you of your childhood, have a cool backstory, or just make you smile.

If you love vintage too, check out my refinished furniture and decor—I’m always adding new finds! And if you have an old piece you want to bring back to life, I’d love to help with that too.
